iSeries (AS400) error messages

Every so often (mostly during development) iSeries will return an error number.  Generally I find they do nothing but confuse since the person using iSeries is a PC developer and knows little about the AS400 and the AS400 developer knows nothing about iSeries.

Next time you’re dealing with an obscure error from iSeries try looking for it in this document:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r4/topic/rzaik/rzaik.pdf

I found my error in there.

I assume you are referring to connecting via ODBC or JDBC types of errors?

Another good place to look (provided you have a login) are the various logs and messages on the system itself like QSYSOPR or the system history log. It can sure help you fix simple little errors.

Yeah, for sure. When I tackle issues with fetching information from an AS400 I’m thinking about it in the mindset of someone that barely knows how to log into an AS400, much less develop for it.

Thanks for your tip! Unfortunately the folks I was working with at the time didn’t seem to know of that, what do you call it in AS400 speak? That queue? In any case, hopefully AS400 machines are on their way out the door and we won’t have to worry about these issues for much longer.

      Thanks,
