BlackBerry development – how to set up the BB development environment

Developing for a BlackBerry is not something I know much about.  I know that you need Eclipse to develop for it, you also need the BB JDK (That’s BlackBerry Java Development Kit for those of you not up with the short forms).

I did manage to write a “Hello World” app at one point, so I made some good progress there.  But I seem to of walked into the world of BB development in the middle of RIM doing a major overhaul.  I found many of their walk-throughs were only partially correct at best.  For example their demo on how to write the “Hello World” app used a menu feature that doesn’t even exist after downloading and installing as per their directions.

/sigh.  I’m still not sure if the video was out of date (too old) or done on a beta version of the development environment (too new).  In any case now that the new OS is out I think I may give it another go.  I’m assuming things have stabilized a bit since the last iteration.

In any case, here’s a link to a interesting doc that may help you hit the ground running with your BB development.  Be sure to let me know what your experiences are like!
